NOTES ON DESIGNING A SYMBOL FOR THE ORDER OF TIME
Conceptually, I began with basic time telling. Most clocks are circles.
The earth is a circle, always rotating, telling time. A circle symbolizes unity.
It shows balance. All encompassing. Wholeness. All cyclic movement.
The earth, the sun and the moon.
A circle symbolizes the way the universe includes everything.
I began with four circles overlapping.
Each circle represents a season:
a measurement of time
I added one circle to combine and
overlap each season, representing time in a year.
This circle encompasses the growth
and development of the spirit
from season to season: as time goes on.
Finally, one last circle
encloses the mark:
coming full circle.
